MINNEAPOLIS — Internationally renowned earth artist Day Schildkret will make his first-ever trip to Minnesota July 12-13 to lead Lakewood Cemetery’s Midsummer Memory Mandalas event.

The celebration includes a free interactive public art installation created from nature’s leaves, seeds, feathers, flowers and stones gathered from the 250-acre cemetery site, which is right next to Lake Calhoun.

The two-day event, designed to honor the impermanence of life by transforming grief into beauty, will begin on the lawn outside Lakewood’s historic mosaic chapel where Schildkret will create an all-natural mandala from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12. Schildkret and his team will gather natural artistic elements like bark, flowers, leaves, twigs and feathers from Lakewood’s grounds.
