Man sentenced to life in prison in UMD student murder

DULUTH, Minn. — Deandre Davenport was sentenced to life in prison Monday for the Feb. 14, 2017 fatal shooting of a University of Minnesota Duluth student.

The trial concluded Dec. 28, 2018 with the jury finding Davenport guilty of two counts of first degree murder and one count of second degree murder.

Due to Minnesota law, Davenport is only able to legally be sentenced to one count. He will be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Davenport was the fourth co-defendant convicted out of five charged in connection with the murder. 

The 22-year-old victim, William Grahek died at a hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest.
