Police: Cellphone store worker tried to steal nude photo

An Elk River woman claims the Sprint worker who did her data transfer tried to steal a nude photo she had of herself.

ELK RIVER, Minn. - Many of us have taken our new phones into a cellphone store to have them transfer everything for us.

An Elk River woman claims the worker who did her data transfer tried to steal a nude photo she had of herself in her camera roll.

“It's my phone, it's my business, I think, you know?” said Sage Zasoba.

This past weekend, Zasoba says she went into the Elk River Sprint store with her boyfriend, to change carriers and buy new phones.

According to Elk River Police Captain Bob Kluntz, a report Zasoba filed with the department details how the day took an unexpected turn when an assistant manager stepped in to help transfer her data to her new phone.

“I happened to look on my Apple watch, and I clicked under messages,” she said.

Under an unknown number, she saw a topless photo she had recently taken of herself and sent to her boyfriend.

“I felt violated,” she said. “I was just feeling disgusted because we were new customers, and he was standing 10 feet away from me.”

Captain Kluntz says the report states the Sprint employee backing up her new phone had attempted to text her nude photo to himself, but it didn't go through.

The report also says the employee admitted doing so to an investigating officer.

“It's my phone, I can do what I want, I am sending it to my boyfriend,” Zasoba said. “I just want cellphone providers to up their security to make sure employees don't steal their private information. Not only photos but bank accounts, passwords.”

Zasoba wants other customers to be aware of the risks when they hand over their phones.

“And maybe check over their phone and make sure deleted stuff is off their phone,” she said.

KARE 11 reached out to the Elk River Sprint store, where an employee told us that a district manager would be get back to the station's request, but KARE has not yet received a response.

KARE 11 also reached out to Sprint's corporate headquarters and media relations department and did not receive a response just yet.

Elk River Police are still investigating and looking at potential charges.
