South Mpls. homicide victim ID'd as 18-year-old

MINNEAPOLIS - Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in South Minneapolis Friday night as an 18-year-old.

According to police, officers responded to a possible shooting in the area of 43rd Street East and 1st Avenue South at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday. They could not locate a victim but several minutes later they received a report that a man had been dropped off at HCMC by a private vehicle. He died of his injuries.

He was identified on Sunday as 18-year-old Norea Stephon Wilford of St. Paul. The medical examiner determined that he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide, and say they believe the two calls are related. Investigators are canvassing the area of the original shooting report.
