BURNSVILLE, Minn. — A new search warrant filed Wednesday reveals the man who shot and killed two Burnsville police officers and a firefighter/paramedic was firing multiple guns at them.
The search warrant affidavit says Shannon Gooden, 38, retreated to a bedroom and barricaded himself and didn't cooperate when officers attempted to negotiate with him to surrender.
It says sometime later, Gooden opened fire at officers with multiple guns, and as they returned fire, he retreated to a bedroom and killed himself.
This search warrant was filed for police to inspect the cell phone belonging to Gooden's ex-girlfriend Noemi Torres, who spoke to KARE 11 News earlier this week.
Torres told police she last texted Gooden five or six days before the shooting so investigators wanted to see the communication to help understand the mindset of Gooden.
The 911 transcripts released Wednesday from Burnsville city officials reveals a short conversation in the initial call from Gooden's girlfriend — with only one line of context for the dispatcher. City officials have redacted that line but multiple sources say she was reporting child abuse committed by Gooden.
After the brief initial call, the dispatcher unsuccessfully tried calling back three times before two additional calls in which they weren't able to get additional info.
