Communities and businesses step up to help Burnsville

Communities and businesses across the state are showing their support for the victims' families.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Days after the deadly shooting folks are still coming to pay their respects to those who died in the line of duty in front of the memorial at Burnsville City Hall. And that feeling is felt across the state.

Of course, Burnsville itself is filled with those who want to help.

Brickworth Beer Co. is donating Wednesday's sales from their Burnsville and North Loop locations. They are working with the city of Burnsville to put donations in the right place.

“It’s a way to feel we have some control over what’s happening,” said Shawne Murphy Johnson, the owner's mother and on the leadership team.

In Prior Lake, New Creations Child Care & Learning Center is trying to do its part.

Emily Stange, the site director, wanted Burnsville to know they are seen across the state. She sat down with little ones on Wednesday to make cards.

“What do police officers and firefighters do to help us?” she asked one little boy named Carson.

“They help us take care of bad guys,” he replies, as he colored in a police car with the words ‘thank you’ scribbled on top of it.

Stange plans to bring the cards and food donations in later next week for the departments impacted.

Throughout Minnesota, businesses have been trying to find ways to show their support.

Hope Breakfast Bar in Eagan will donate 100 percent of their Tuesday sales to the families of Burnsville police officers Paul Elmstrand, and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth.

The restaurant made 700 percent more than the previous Tuesday, raising $20,000 and an additional $4,500 on a charity cookout.

“I think everyone wanted to show first responders we love them and care about them,” said CEO and founder Brian Ingram.

Next Thursday, Lisa Pfannenstein, general manager of Chianti Grill in Plymouth, said they will donate 100 percent of their sales to the first responders’ families on Thursday, Feb. 29th.

“This tragic event has hit hard for our community and team,” said Lisa Pfannenstein.

Bunch Hill is also raising money. They are hosting "Slide for Support," a lights and tubing night where all of the money raised will go to the Law Enforcement Labor Services Fund. For tickets, click here.
