Suspects charged in Hastings soccer field vandalism

Two men are accused of doing "donuts" on soccer fields. It's estimated that 200,000 square feet of turf was destroyed.

Prosecutors have charged two men in connection with the heavy damage done to soccer fields in Hastings.

Edward Lee Mears and Asa Alden Soine have been charged with criminal damage to property in the 1st degree, which is a felony.

The men are accused of driving on the wet soccer fields and doing several "donuts" with at least one vehicle.

The soccer fields were damaged on Sunday, March 24.

It is estimated that 200,000 square feet of turf was destroyed.

A landscaping employee said it would cost $137,000 to fix the fields, according to the criminal complaint.

City officials are hoping some of the costs will be covered by insurance.
