Train derailment spills corn in southwest Minnesota

A train derailment has spilled 23 cars of corn in the southwestern Minnesota town of Cottonwood.

COTTONWOOD, Minn. - A train derailment has spilled 23 cars of corn in the southwestern Minnesota town of Cottonwood.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train derailed Friday evening.

Crews were working Saturday to clean up the corn and clear the cars.

The northbound train was headed to Willmar when the cars tipped about 6:30 p.m. No one was hurt. Officials are investigating the cause of the derailment.

Burlington Northern released the following statement Saturday.

We're sorry for the impact this has on the town and will be working as quickly and safely as possible to restore the area. We've been talking with local officials to update them on the incident and the response efforts.
