Minnesota Athletes Remember Kobe Bryant

Heartbreak and denial from Stefon Diggs, Willie Burton, Kirk Cousins, and many more current and former MN athletes.

Athletes across the spectrum of Minnesota sports took a moment to pay homage to Kobe Bryant on Twitter today. 

At 9:47 a.m. this morning, the 41-year-old basketball legend was killed along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and 7 others in a Southern California helicopter crash.

Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Kirk Cousins tweeted "So sad to hear of Kobe’s passing. We lost a legend. Praying for his family, friends and all of his fans. I believe his Mamba mentality will live on with all those he inspired."

Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs tweeted "Today I lost my hero..."

Tight end Kyle Rudolph tweeted "I can’t pray enough for Vanessa and the Bryant family... why is life so damn fragile!"

Retired pro basketball player and Gophers legend Willie Burton commented on Bryant's death saying he worked out with Kobe Bryant when they were in high school.

Washington Redskins cornerback and former Viking tweeted about the heartbreak he felt regarding the news of Bryant's death. "My heart is broken over the loss of Kobe, Gianna and the seven other passengers. The Mamba mentality will continue to inspire generations to come to never settle for less than their best. Watching you play a game you love was something I’m grateful to have witnessed."

Winger for Minnesota United Ethan Finlay tweeted he was saddened by Bryant's death. "Saddened by the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter along with 3 others. A legend gone to[o] soon. Never wait to show or tell someone you love them!"

Vikings linebacker Kentrell Brothers tweeted "I'm so sick right now bro... I don't believe it."

Michigan State University Coach Tom Izzo said his team was "devastated" by the news of Bryant passing. 

Vikings Cornerback Mackensie Alexander called Bryant "A true legend and inspiration for my generation."

Vikings tight end Tyler Conklin tweeted he was "crushed," and did not want to believe it.
