MN United clinches first playoff berth

The Loons used a late score to cap a second-half rally and qualify for their first MLS playoff

ST PAUL, Minn. — After an impressive come from behind win on their home pitch, Minnesota United F.C. has secured their first MLS playoff berth in franchise history.

The Loons defeated Sporting KC 2-1 in front of a sellout crowd at Allianz Field in St. Paul to clinch the bid.

Minnesota fell behind early to Sporting KC when Botond Barath scored in the 7th minute. That 1-0 advantage stayed that way until United finally broke through and scored off a corner kick in the 70th minute on an Ozzie Alonso goal. Then in the waning moments, rookie Hassani Dotson blasted one past the Sporting KC keeper sending the frenzied crowd into a roaring hysteria. Minnesota Goalie Vito Mannone held on from there, as the Loons qualify for the postseason with just two games remaining in the regular season.
