Saint John's wins fourth straight MIAC Championship

Johnnies beat Bethel 28-10 in title game

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Saint John's (9-1) won their fourth-straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football Championship on Saturday, beating Bethel (8-2) 28-10 in the title game.

The Johnnies were led by their defense in the win, finishing with five interceptions and limiting Bethel to just 10 points.

Bethel won the regular season meeting by a score of 28-24 back in September, but Saint John's was able to get revenge on Saturday in Collegeville.

Offensively, quarterback Aaron Syverson threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Saint John's offense.

Linebacker Cooper Yaggie produced a 61-yard interception return for touchdown late in the first half to help give the Johnnies a commanding 21-10 lead at halftime.

The win marks the 36th MIAC Conference Championship in Saint John's program history.

The Johnnies will learn their NCAA Division III playoff game time, location and opponent on Sunday night during the selection show. Bethel could also make the tournament as an at-large selection.
