VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. — Authorities have reopened a portion of I-694 and 35E between Little Canada and Vadnais Heights after reports of a person carrying a firearm surfaced around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a negotiator was dispatched to help diffuse the situation, and the individual surrendered their firearm without incident before being taken into custody. They were later placed into the care of Regions Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Minnesota Department of Transportation cameras originally showed traffic shut down in both directions near the 35E exits on 694, and northbound on 35E near Edgerton Street. Authorities had initially asked motorists to steer clear of the area.

Authorities have released no further information at this time, and this remains an active investigation.
