BLAINE, Minn. - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle at a busy intersection in Blaine Tuesday night.

First responders were dispatched at about 8:45 p.m. on reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian at University Avenue NE and 85th Street. Officers arrived and found a 51-year-old Minneapolis man laying in the southbound lanes of University suffering from severe injuries. Lifesaving efforts were not successful, and he was declared dead on the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was a 73-year-old man from Coon Rapids. A police officer who witnessed the collision says it appears the motorist had the right of way but the pedestrian did not yield to him.

Investigators from the Minnesota State Patrol, Blaine Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office will continue to work on the case.
