New owners set to reopen Thirsty Whale Bakery

YoYo Donut owners Alise and Luke McGregor were moved to action after hearing about the Whale's closing, and intend to reopen with minimal changes.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Whale will swim again.

Fans of a well-known north Minneapolis bakery have some tasty news to chew on, with Wednesday's announcement that the Thirsty Whale will reopen Dec. 18 under new ownership.

A press release says YoYo Donuts owners Alise and Luke McGregor have already completed the purchase of the bakery and will restart the business with "minimal changes."

The McGregors were "moved to action" after they read and heard about the closing of the Thirsty Whale Bakery last week due to financial hardship. They will do some minor redecorating before Monday's Grand Reopening and have invited former owner Kyle Baker to stay on staff.

For his part, Baker says he is thrilled the Whale will stay open.

"The past few years have presented many challenges in running a business,” Baker said in a released statement. “I am grateful the community will still be able to enjoy Thirsty Whale Bakery and all the hard work that has gone into it over the years.”
