Money Monday: Gen Z

We're helping you solve your financial puzzle, focusing on a different generation each week in February.

MINNETONKA, Minn. — Each week in February we're helping you solve your financial puzzle and each week we're focusing on a different generation.

This week, financial advice for those "Gen Zers" out there.

Here are 3 things financial advisor Nicole Middendorf from Prosper Wealth Financial says should be on your radar.

Number 1: Not getting into credit card debt

“If you're young in high school or college, not looking at a credit card as your way to pay for things so making sure you stay out of credit card debt,” said Middendorf.

Number 2: Get a budget plan -- especially if you have student loans

“Not looking at those to pay your living expenses, and make sure you are using those and paying them while you're going to school and not just waiting for school to be done to pay your debt.”

Number 3: It's time to think about getting a ROTH IRA

“The requirement to get a ROTH IRA is earned income, so if you have a kid that's working in the summer and they make a thousand dollars, they can put thousand dollars in the ROTH IRA and use that tax free for their first home purchase, for their education or even use it when they get out of college."
