ST. CLOUD, Minn. — St. Cloud police say a man now identified as 41-year-old David Beckes is dead after being tased by police as they attempted to subdue him Wednesday afternoon.

Dispatchers initially received a medical call from a woman on the 10 block of Wilson Ave SE about an unresponsive man in an apartment. Before officers arrived at the residence the woman reported that the man was possibly having a seizure, becoming physically aggressive towards her while choking and assaulting her.

When officers arrived at the apartment they forcibly entered the room after not getting a response from either the man or the woman at the door. While attempting to subdue the suspect and take him into custody at least one officer used a taser device, which caused the man to become unresponsive.

The man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy will be performed to determine what caused his death.

Police say the woman involved in the incident suffered minor injuries from the assault, as did an officer who sustained minor injuries during the arrest.

Police closed off the 10 block of Wilson Ave SE to traffic while they investigated.

An investigation into the incident is currently being conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The officers involved have been placed on standard paid administrative leave, according to police.
