BLAINE, Minn. — Criminal charges have been filed against the driver allegedly involved in a deadly crash on Dec. 6 that resulted in a woman's death.

Matt Warren Hastreiter, 42, of Lexington, Minn., is charged with criminal vehicular homicide involving an alcohol concentration of .08 or more, according to a press release from the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff also identified the victim in the case as Sheryl Ann Miller, 52, of Blaine.

According to a criminal complaint, Blaine police responded to the scene on Naples Street near Lake Drive around 6 a.m. on Friday. Officers discovered a woman laying in the roadway, who had been struck by a car that was still at the scene.

The complaint says the driver, later identified as Hastreiter, told police he stopped immediately after realizing he'd hit something in the street. Responding officers reported smelling a faint odor of alcohol, according to the complaint, and put Hastreiter through two field sobriety tests, which he failed.

The complaint states Hastreiter admitted to consuming eight vodka shots the night before, and three more in the morning. A preliminary breath test registered a blood alcohol content of .117, according to the complaint.

A witness at the scene also told police he saw Hastreiter driving the car that hit Miller, the complaint says.

Hastreiter is now being held in the Anoka County jail.
