Climatologists expect snowfall to make a 'dent' in drought

The Minnesota DNR is keeping a close eye on the snowfall over the weekend with hopes it will help out the drought conditions.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Minnesota has had its own March Madness with the weather these past two weeks. From 70 degrees and red flag warnings to snowstorm warnings. Climatologists and meteorologists are busy forecasting.

"We are certainly behind this year in snowfall numbers," DNR Climatologist, Luigi Romolo said.

Most of the state is in a drought and the snowfall on Sunday isn't going to eliminate it but Romolo hopes it will make a dent.

You can view the drought map here.

"A lot of it is going to run off into our rivers and lakes," Romolo said.

KARE 11 is declaring Sunday a Weather Warn day as there are potentials for several inches of snow to fall.
