Fire closes Minneapolis restaurant

Fire crews were dispatched to the two-story establishment at 330 E. Hennepin on Sunday afternoon and found flames inside the kitchen ventilation system.

MINNEAPOLIS — A restaurant in the St. Anthony neighborhood of Minneapolis is closed following a fire Sunday afternoon.

Minneapolis Fire Department officials say crews were dispatched to Masu Sushi & Robata at 330 E. Hennepin Ave. just after 3 p.m. and upon arrival found smoke pouring from the roof. Firefighters investigated and found flames inside the kitchen hoods extending up to the roof.

Crews climbed on the roof of the building and ran water through the vents to extinguish the fire. Fire investigators say crews had to tear open the kitchen ceiling and three large hood vents to reach and knock down all the flames.

The city health department was notified and the restaurant was deemed uninhabitable due to fire, smoke and water damage.

At this point, an official cause for the fire has not been determined.
