5-vehicle crash occurs at Minneapolis McDonald's, three firearms recovered from scene

A police sergeant, who was already inside McDonald’s at the time, heard the initial crash and responded to the scene.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — A car crash, which initially occurred near 45th Avenue North and Lyndale Avenue North, led to the recovery of several firearms and two arrests, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. Police said they are still searching for a third person.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. when two vehicles collided and one of them drove over the snow-covered grass and into the McDonald’s parking lot, striking three other unoccupied vehicles, claimed MPD.

"It was a pretty loud bang and all of a sudden I got told to come outside right away," General Manager Justin Lang said.

Lang's car received minor damage from the crash.

A Minneapolis sergeant, who was already inside McDonald’s at the time, heard the initial crash and responded to the scene. According to police, three people were inside of the suspect vehicle and two of them ran off.

With the assistance of additional officers, police detained two juveniles. MPD Chief Brian O’Hara said they are still searching for the third person. Officers also confiscated three firearms and an imitation or toy gun from inside the suspect vehicle.

Chief O’Hara said he believes the suspect vehicle was involved in a robbery of a business further down on Lyndale Avenue earlier Sunday.

"Thankfully all the others responded here quickly and we were able to get these guns off the street before any other robberies, or crimes, or violence occurred," Chief O'Hara said.

There were no reported injuries at the scene and no damage was done to the building.
