Fire guts Mound home undergoing renovation

Fire Chief Greg Pederson said the home, located on the 4700 block of Bedford Rd., was raging when crews arrived. He said renovations were underway on the structure.

MOUND, Minn. — A home in Mound is likely to be a total loss after fire tore through the structure early Wednesday.

Mound Fire Chief Greg Pederson said his crews were dispatched to the 4700 block of Bedford Rd. shortly before 4:30 a.m. but believes the fire was raging well before that. The home, which was undergoing renovations, is described by the chief as "cluttered." Pederson said it's likely the fire started in the garage of the home, which is filled with tools.

Fire crews were on the scene for hours putting water on the flames and knocking down hot spots.

A neighbor told KARE 11 photojournalist Willow Bucker who woke up early, looked outside and saw a lot of red. The man showed her some siding on his own home that melted due to the heat generated by the fire at his neighbor's.

The official cause of the fire is undetermined at this point, but Chief Pederson said the home is probably a total loss.
