Minnetonka student headed to Washington as part of the United States Senate Youth Program

Each student also receives a $10,000 scholarship to college.

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — Each year, two high school students are selected from each state as part of the United States Senate Youth Program.

The students spend a week in Washington D.C. with their state's senators and learn about the American political process.

Each student also receives a $10,000 scholarship to college.

This year, Sydney McGrath, a senior at Roosevelt High School, and Deepti Pillai, a senior at Minnetonka High School, won the prestigious honor.

Deepti will join Senator Amy Klobuchar and Senator Tina Smith for the 62nd annual USSYP Washington Week, to be held March 2 - 9, 2024.

Pillai, the president of the student body, joined KARE 11 Saturday to talk about the program.
