Minnesota mom wins $3.1 million Lotto America jackpot

The mother of two won the $3.1 million jackpot after matching all six numbers in the April 24 Lotto America drawing.

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — For some people, it's a science.

They'll fill out their lottery tickets using old jersey numbers, memorable dates or any digit they deem to be "lucky." For one Minnesota mom, it was family birthdates.

The mother of two won $3.1 million after matching all six numbers in the April 24 Lotto America drawing.

"I'm so happy," said the winner, who chose to remain anonymous when she claimed her prize on Tuesday. "I couldn’t believe it — I’ve never seen so many zeros before.”

According to the Minnesota Lottery, she purchased the winning ticket at a Cub Foods in Coon Rapids, and says her first purchase is going to be a plane ticket to southeast Asia to visit her mother, who she hasn't seen in years.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen her,” she said. “I’m looking forward to flying back home. I’ve got a big family that I haven’t seen in more than a decade.”

The woman is the second Lotto America jackpot winner from Minnesota this year. The first was a $3.37 million jackpot winner in March.
