State Rep. Peter Fischer recovering from heart attack

State Representative Peter Fischer (DFL-Maplewood) suffered a heart attack on Jan. 18.

ST PAUL, Minn. — A state lawmaker suffered a heart attack last week and is recovering from a successful surgery.

On Jan. 18, State Representative Peter Fischer (DFL - Maplewood) was experiencing chest pains and went to the hospital, according to a news release from the Minnesota House of Representatives.

The doctors determined Fischer had suffered a heart attack.

Doctors performed surgery on Fischer and told him they expected a full recovery.

Rep. Fischer thanked his medical team and looks forward to getting back to work.

Rep. Fischer's statement:

"On January 18, I went to the hospital after having chest pain. After an examination, it was determined I had suffered a heart attack and underwent surgery. I am currently doing well, and doctors expect I will make a full recovery. I am grateful to the health professionals for their quick response and excellent care. I look forward to resuming my normal schedule. Thank you to everyone who reached out during my health scare. My situation is an important reminder for everyone to seek medical attention if something doesn't seem normal. This is not the way I expected 2024 to start, but I am happy to report I am on the mend!"

Rep. Fischer, a nonprofit finance director, was elected in 2012 and is currently serving his 6th term, according to the Minnesota State Legislature's website.
