Phyllis Wheatley Community Center receives award from Impact100 Twin Cities

Impact100 Twin Cities continues its mission to support the community by empowering women.

MINNEAPOLIS — A Twin Cities nonprofit is giving $100,000 to a Minneapolis community center for programming to support single Black mothers to build equity while creating economic security.

Impact100 Twin Cities is a nonprofit made up of women in Minneapolis and St. Paul. It provides these women with a framework to allow them to take their philanthropic goals to the next level.

On Monday, the nonprofit announced its gift to the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, an organization serving the Twin Cities' African-American community for more than 100 years. It was originally founded as a place for African-Americans traveling through the Twin Cities to find respite and safe housing.

Today, the center supports programs that work toward equitable outcomes for marginalized communities. Its mission is to create pathways for people to discover their strengths and take control of their futures.

In addition to the gift to the community center, Impact100 will also gift $20,000 to Cancer Legal Care, Dress for Success Twin Cities and Wildflyer Coffee.
