MINNEAPOLIS — A man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly shot at Minneapolis Police officers.

The incident started after officers responded to the 2400 block of Ogema Place around 3:10 a.m. for a report of a man breaking into an apartment and threatening to kill the mother of his child, according to the MPD.

Officers identified a 41-year-old woman, her 19-year-old son and her other infant son at the home. Police said no injuries were reported and the man the officers believed to be the suspect had already left the scene by the time officials arrived.

Less than 20 minutes later, officers responded to 2319 W. Broadway due to a shotspotter activation. According to Minneapolis police, additional 911 calls said the suspect had shot out a patio door at that address, entered the home, and was threatening and assaulting a 74-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 7-year-old child.

Officials said the three people at the W. Broadway address were related to the 41-year-old woman who resides on the 2100 block of Ogema Place, where police had been called earlier.

According to the MPD, officers thought the occupants at 2319 W. Broadway were in imminent danger and made forced entry after announcing themselves.

As officers made their way into the home, they believed the suspect "discharged a firearm" in their direction, according to an MPD release. The suspect then ran through the home and jumped out of a second-story window. He was arrested with "minimal force," police said.

The suspect was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center to treat the minor injuries he received while jumping from the window. He will be booked into the Hennepin County Jail for 1st-degree assault, police said.

The 74-year-old woman and 7-year-old were taken to area hospitals for evaluation and the 23-year-old man reported no injuries.
