MINNEAPOLIS — The "oohs" and "aahs" will be back along the Minneapolis downtown riverfront this summer, as Red, White and Boom is set to return after a five-year absence.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) announced Friday that the fireworks show and festival will resume on July 4, 2024. The last Red, White and Boom event took place in 2019. The event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and smaller events were held across the city in 2021 and 2022. Last year, MPRB hosted a laser light show at Boom Island instead of fireworks.

“People love Fourth of July fireworks on the Downtown Minneapolis riverfront. We heard that from communities we serve, partners we work with, and our own staff, so we’re excited to bring back this beloved tradition,” MPRB Superintendent Al Bangoura said in a statement.

This year's festivities will take place on the west side of the river, with live music and food trucks at Water Works and the Stone Arch Bridge parking lot. The event will begin at 6 p.m., with the fireworks show scheduled at 10 p.m.

Attendees will want to be aware of one wrinkle: the Stone Arch Bridge will be closed during Red, White and Boom as part of an ongoing MnDOT repair project on the bridge.
