Truck strikes power pole, killing passenger and shocking deputy in Waseca

The driver of this Ford Ranger pickup struck a power pole and rolled, fatally ejecting a female passenger. A deputy responding to the scene was burned by a power line.

WASECA, Minn. — A single vehicle crash in Waseca Wednesday killed a female passenger and injured a responding deputy who came into contact with a live power line.

Deputies were dispatched to a scene on 128th Street around 9:30 p.m., and found a Ford Ranger pickup that had struck a power pole and rolled. A female passenger was thrown from the vehicle and fatally injured. The driver, a 16-year-old boy from Waseca, was taken to a hospital in Mankato with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputy Josh Langr was working the crash scene when he accidentally walked into a downed power line and was seriously burned. First responders from the Waseca Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance pulled the 15-year veteran to safety and began lifesaving efforts. Langr was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.
