MINNEAPOLIS - Lt. John Delmonico says he's withdrawn his name for consideration as the next Minneapolis Police Department 4th Precinct Inspector.

Delmonico tells KARE 11's Jana Shortal that "It's the right thing to do" and "I don't want to be the wedge between Chief (Janee) Harteau and Mayor (Betsy) Hodges."

In an email to MPD employees, Chief Harteau says she supports and understands how Delmonico arrived at the decision. "John’s decision is both selfless and what he believes is best for the officers and residents of the 4th precinct," she wrote.

In the email to MPD staff, Harteau said she stands by her appointment, which Hodges later vetoed. Harteau said Delmonico will continue to lead the 4th Precinct nightwatch.
