Presidential primary candidate tells voters to pick someone else

Krystal Gabel claims she was never asked to appear as a candidate for the Legal Marijuana Now Party.

ST PAUL, Minn. — One candidate in Minnesota’s upcoming presidential primary is hoping you’ll vote for someone else.

Krystal Gabel, a cannabis activist from Colorado, appears on Minnesota’s presidential primary ballot as a candidate for the Legal Marijuana Now party. However, Gabel says she was placed on the ballot without her consent.

Gabel has run for office in other states previously, but only learned of her candidacy on the Minnesota ballot when she received a Google alert.

"I was not approached to run for office by anyone in the LMN Minnesota Party,” Gabel said in an email to KARE 11. “The LMN MN Party listed me on their ballot without any communication or my consent."

However, party officials say Gabel was in discussions to appear as a candidate.

Gabel is one of five candidates appearing on LMN’s presidential primary ballot. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office, the Legal Marijuana Now party maintains major party status, alongside the DFL and Republicans, after receiving enough votes in the last statewide election.

Expect Gabel’s name to remain on the ballot, however, as Minnesota’s presidential primary ballots are already printed, and early voting is already underway for the election on March 5.
