Minnesota's three major political parties will each have a slate of presidential candidates for voters to choose from.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Voters in 15 states, including Minnesota, and one territory head to the polls on Tuesday, March 5 to make their choice for their party's nominee for president. Iowa will also officially release its Democratic presidential preference results. It's the largest number of nominating contests in a single day for the 2024 presidential cycle, traditionally earning the nickname, "Super Tuesday."

What's on the ballot on Super Tuesday in Minnesota?

Minnesota's three major political parties (DFL, Republican, Legal Marijuana Now) will each have a slate of presidential candidates for voters to choose from. There will be no other parties and no other races on the ballot; Minnesota will hold a separate primary in August for other races.

One key difference for the presidential primary in Minnesota: each voter will need to choose a specific party ballot, as the parties will be on separate ballots. Your party selection will be made available to the party's chair, who will receive a list of the voters who chose that ballot; however, the actual vote will remain secret.

Why are candidates who dropped out still on the Super Tuesday ballot?

Candidates like Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Marianne Williamson have already ended their campaigns; however, their names were already included when the state finalized and printed the ballots in early January, and will not be removed.

"Once a party’s list is submitted, changes will not be made to candidates that will appear on the ballot," the Minnesota Secretary of State's office said on its presidential primary FAQ page.

When do the polls open for Super Tuesday in Minnesota?

Most polls open starting at 7 a.m. on Election Day, and close at 8 p.m.; however, if you're already in line by 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

How do I find my polling place for Super Tuesday in Minnesota?

The state has a Poll Finder available online, where you can enter your address to find your polling location. 

Who's eligible to vote on Super Tuesday in Minnesota?

According to the Minnesota Secretary of State, in order to be eligible to vote in Minnesota, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • At least 18 years old on Election Day, March 5
  • A resident of the state of Minnesota for at least 20 days
  • Not currently incarcerated for a felony or under a court order that revokes the right to vote

Can I still register to vote on Super Tuesday in Minnesota?

Minnesota residents can register in advance until 20 days before the election. However, registration is also available on Election Day at the polls, by bringing in an approved document that proves your current address, or having another registered voter in your precinct vouch for you.

Do I need an ID to vote on Super Tuesday in Minnesota?

Identification or proof of address is only needed if you need to register to vote at the polls. If your voter registration is current, your name will be on the voter list at your polling location and the state of Minnesota does not require you to to show an ID to vote.

I have an absentee ballot, can I still turn it in on Super Tuesday?

Ballots can be returned in-person to your county elections office by 3 p.m. on Election Day.

What do the Super Tuesday results mean?

The winner of each party's primary will receive delegates to the party's national convention, who will ultimately nominate that party's candidate for the November general election.
