University of Minnesota wrestling beats Northwestern

The Gophers highest-ranked wrestler, senior Michael Blockhus (#5 at 157 pounds), beat #18 Trevor Chumbley with an 8-5 decision.

MINNEAPOLIS — The #10 Minnesota (8-2) wrestling team won their third consecutive match on Sunday, beating Northwestern 39-0.

The win was Minnesota’s first shutout over a conference opponent since 2021. Sunday was the second shutout of the season, marking just the second time in the last 22 seasons that the Gophers have posted two shutouts in the same season.

Three of the ten victories on Sunday came via tech fall. Freshman Tyler Wells, Vance VomBaur and Drew Roberts all earned tech fall wins.

The Gophers highest-ranked wrestler, senior Michael Blockhus (#5 at 157 pounds), beat #18 Trevor Chumbley with an 8-5 decision.

Up next for the 8-2 Gophers is a pair of duals on the road next weekend, starting with Friday’s dual at Illinois.
