Twins-Tigers game postponed Thursday due to weather

The club says the contest will be made up Saturday in the form of a true doubleheader, with back-to-back games at Comerica Park starting at 1:10 p.m.

DETROIT — There's a good reason Major League Baseball (MLB) schedules the early part of the season a bit loosely, as spring weather can be unpredictable.

Thursday's game pitting the Twins against division rival Detroit is a case in point. The afternoon tilt was canceled due to an inclement weather forecast and was promptly rescheduled for Saturday in the form of a true doubleheader. The first game will start at 1:10 p.m. with the second to start 40 minutes after the first concludes.

Minnesota fans who were going to make the road trip to the Motor City should know that Thursday's tickets can be exchanged for Saturday at no extra charge, making it a two-for-one. Those who already hold tickets for Saturday's game can see the second game free.

The forecast in Detroit on Thursday is for rain all afternoon and into the evening. Friday night doesn't look great either, with a 40% chance of rain. Saturday looks sunny, mild and breezy, a great day for baseball.

At this point it looks like Twins pitcher Joe Ryan will take the ball Friday against Detroit, with Bailey Ober starting game 1 on Saturday. The club has not listed a starter for game 2, but hometown boy Louie Varland is currently projected to take the mound for Sunday's series finale.
