Karl-Anthony Towns cleared for 'full contact, 5-on-5 basketball activities'

The star Timberwolves forward/center has been out with a knee injury since mid-March.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns is nearly ready to return to action, and the timing couldn't be better with the playoffs just around the corner.

The team announced Tuesday that "Towns has been cleared for full-contact, 5-on-5 basketball activities." While the team did not give a definitive return date, the team said he "is progressing toward his return to play."

Towns has been out of the lineup for Minnesota since mid-March after undergoing surgery on a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee.

Entering Tuesday, Minnesota was tied with the Denver Nuggets for first place in the NBA Western Conference with four games left on the regular schedule, including a tip-off against the Nuggets on Wednesday in Denver. Three of the final four regular season games will be played at Target Center:

  • Tuesday, April 9: Washington Wizards vs. Minnesota Timberwolves @ Target Center
  • Wednesday, April 10: Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Denver Nuggets @ Ball Arena
  • Friday, April 12: Atlanta Hawks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves @ Target Center
  • Sunday, April 14: Phoenix Suns vs. Minnesota Timberwolves @ Target Center
