METRO Blue Line closure: What you need to know

The 10-day closure begins Friday, May 3 at 10 p.m., with light rail trains replaced by bus service between Fort Snelling and Mall of America.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Light rail riders may want to plan ahead if your trip takes you to MSP International Airport or Mall of America in the coming days.

Metro Transit announced the southern portion of the METRO Blue Line will be closed for ten days for maintenance starting Friday, May 3 at 10 p.m. between the Fort Snelling and Mall of America stations. Bus service will replace train service between Fort Snelling and six stations:

  • Terminal 1 - Airport
  • Terminal 2 - Airport
  • American Blvd
  • Bloomington Central
  • 30th Avenue
  • Mall of America

Travelers who use the light rail to move between MSP terminals need not worry, however; Metro Transit says shuttle train service between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will remain active throughout the ten-day closure.

Commuters or travelers who use light rail to head into downtown Minneapolis are encouraged to park at the Fort Snelling station during the closure.

According to Metro Transit, replacement bus service will follow the train schedule as much as possible, but the agency cautions riders that timing and trips may be affected by traffic and other conditions.

Regular light rail service is scheduled to resume at 3 a.m. on Monday, May 13.
