BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Traffic on a busy Twin Cities interstate backed up for miles Monday morning after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Bloomington.
The incident happened around 6 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-35W at 90th Street. MnDOT traffic cameras show a pedestrian dart off the shoulder of I-35W, running into rush hour traffic. That man was hit by at least one vehicle, and video shows other drivers swerving to avoid the person as they lay on the pavement.
A vehicle was parked or stalled on the median where the person was struck - it is unclear if that person was trying to get to the vehicle when they were hit.
The 39-year-old pedestrian was transported to HCMC with life-threatening injuries, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The driver who hit him was not injured.
MnDOT officials estimated that I-35W would be closed for hours, but traffic cams showed vehicles moving freely again just before 8 a.m.
