MINNEAPOLIS — More than 400 residents of Minneapolis and St. Paul were invited to take a trip to the impound lot Thursday after a days-long winter storm dropped several inches of snow, prompting parking headaches amid snow emergencies.

KARE 11's weather team said that as of Thursday afternoon, the winter storm dumped between 12 and 17 inches of snow in some areas, while other cities in the south metro recorded up to 21 inches.

St. Paul Public Works' Lisa Hiebert told KARE 11 that 687 vehicles parked on night plow routes during the first day of the city's snow emergency were ticketed. Of those ticketed, Hiebert said 243 were towed.

On Thursday afternoon, the city declared a second snow emergency, meaning it will reset its two-day observance, and plows will repeat night routes from Wednesday.

In Minneapolis, a city official told KARE 11 that of 595 tickets issued on Wednesday night into Thursday, 194 were towed.
