GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Is it spring already?
Well, technically, no, but with another stretch of record-breaking temperatures looming, it's tough to think that less than 48 hours ago, temps were in the teens. In fact, temperatures warmed up 46 degrees on Thursday, making it the eighth-largest swing ever, according to KARE 11 meteorologist John Zeigler.
"You're talking about one of the strongest warm fronts of all-time (Thursday) and we've got another strong one (Friday)," said Ziegler. "... We might see some isolated spots (where we're) back to that 59- or 60-degree temp. The reason for the warming will be that south wind that we're going to have at 17 to 25 mph throughout the (Friday)."
Sixties are in the forecast for the weekend, with the potential for 70 on Sunday, giving people throughout the state a taste of spring before temperatures drop back into the 40s next week. The cold front causing those temps will also bring a chance for thunderstorms on Sunday.
"It's not widespread, so if you have plans on Sunday, keep them," said Ziegler.
A snowy/rain mix is possible on Monday, so winter isn't completely over, but the weekend could be the perfect opportunity to take in some sun and enjoy Mother Nature while the weather cooperates.
