'I just keep on replaying the moment of me getting hit over and over again' Edina hit-and-run victim speaks out

Kyla Avant recalled seeing the car speeding around the school bus just moments before she was about to board, sending her airborne.

EDINA, Minn. — It's been a traumatic week for 17-year-old Edina High School senior Kyla Avant, after being hit by a car while getting on her bus in Edina last week.

"I just keep on replaying the moment of me getting hit over and over again, I was conscious for the whole thing."" said Kyla.

Avant recalled seeing the black Chevy Malibu, found by police earlier this week speeding around the right side of the bus just moments before she was about to board, sending her airborne.

"Right when I got hit all I saw was the sky and just the trees," said Kyla.

She landed on the roof of the car before rolling off the back of it as it sped off.

"When I try to go to sleep I will stay up in my bed for like an hour just thinking about it," said Kyla.

Kyla's mother Carly and her grandmother Karen have now been left with the task of helping her through physical therapy but they're also left with so many unanswered questions.

"You left my child there with no regard," said Kyla's mother, Carly Turner.

Turner says what's even more frightening is that both of her kids were at the bus stop that day knowing in an instant she could've lost them both is what makes the whole situation so heartbreaking.

"She's a human and the human thing to do is to check and make sure they're ok." Turner went on to say, "to just leave the scene without nothing that hurts the most, it hurts the most."

With more recovery ahead, aside from healing, Kyla says she wants nothing more than for the person responsible to be held accountable.

"Just please turn yourself in because this has made a very big impact on my life and this will forever change my life," said Kyla.

Kyla wasn't able to share the extent of her injuries because her attorneys have asked her not to, but she's hoping to return to school on Monday morning.

Edina police say this is an ongoing investigation and if you have any information that could lead to an arrest they want to hear from you.
