ST. CLOUD, Minn. — St. Cloud State University (SCSU) President Dr. Robbyn Wacker announced Monday she'll leave her position when her current contract is up, opening the role to a new leader in July 2024.

In a statement from the university, school officials said the last day of Wacker's contract is June 30, 2024. Wacker, the first woman to lead the school in its history, was named SCSU's 24th president in 2018.

"Serving as SCSU's president has been an honor and a privilege," Wacker said in the statement provided by SCSU. “I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve our amazing students, faculty, staff, and administrative leaders. This decision was extremely difficult; however, I feel great about what I and my leadership team have accomplished in the past six years, and the time is right to hand the reigns over to the next leader."

SCSU said Wacker was fundamental in helping the school "reestablish itself as a higher education institution of choice."

“During her tenure, Dr. Wacker led the university through the most challenging time in higher education’s history with positivity, empathy, and vision,” said Scott Olson, chancellor of Minnesota State, in a statement. “Her commitment to student success and Equity 2030 has laid a foundation of excellence at the university that will impact the region for years to come."

In addition to her impact at the university, the school said Wacker has also been involved with the St. Cloud Mayor's Downtown Development Taskforce, the Greater St. Cloud Chamber Downtown Alliance Board, Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation and the Initiative Foundation.

A search for an interim president is set to launch this spring, whose term will span a two-year period.
