Creating childhood confidence, one bird feeder at a time

The St. Paul-based nonprofit has hosted free workshops for more than 5,000 students at dozens of schools across the metro in the past two years.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Building confidence can be crucial for youth development. A St. Paul nonprofit is hoping to help, one bird feeder at a time.

Elpis Enterprises hosts regular woodworking workshops, like its Land of 10,000 Diverse 4th Grade Birdwatchers Project, which has included free workshops for more than 5,000 students at dozens of schools across the metro in the past two years.

"We strive to help interns in our program gain meaningful work experiences that set them up for success in the workplace while also helping youth all over the cities gain confidence and excitement while using hammers and drills to build bird feeders they take home to help the birds in their backyard," Elpis woodworking program manager Karl Erickson said.

Erickson stopped by KARE 11 Saturday to share more about the program and the cool projects they make with kids.
