BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Nine years after opening and five years since their last new product release, Brooklyn Park's Skaalvenn Distillery is launching something new in the local spirits category: gin, flavored with real Japanese yuzu.
Not familiar with Yuzu? Yuzu is a hybrid citrus that is extremely popular in Japan, where most of its value is in the extremely aromatic peels and juice. Yuzu is considered one of the most exotic and complex of all citrus fruits, with a harmonious combination of sweet lemon, lime, and grapefruit characteristics.
Skaalvenn Yuzu Gin is now available at select Minnesota bars and liquor stores.
Owner of Skaalvenn Distillery, Tyson Schnitker, and bartender, Luke Young, joined KARE 11 Saturday to talk cocktails and share recipes for Gin and Tonic and Negroni.
Gin & Tonic
- 2oz Skaalvenn Yuzu Gin
- Top with tonic water
- Build in ice-filled glass.
- Garnish with lime or lemon slice
Negroni
- 1oz Skaalvenn Yuzu gin
- 1oz sweet vermouth
- 1oz Campari
- Stir with ice, strain into ice-filled glass
- garnish with orange peel
