MINNESOTA, USA — The weather pattern starts to change as low pressure approaches the region from the southwest. The winds will strengthen throughout the day while clouds build in from the west. Temperatures will warm easily into the lower half of the 70s across the region.
A Wind Advisory has been issued for the western part of the state. It's here where winds could gust up to 45 mph. The advisory expires at 11:00 p.m.
A line of thunderstorms develop over South Dakota and will eventually make its way into western Minnesota in the later evening hours. This line of rain is expected to thin and weaken as it makes its way east. There will be a line of showers with a chance of a thundershower in the Twin Cities after midnight into the early morning hours of Tuesday.
In the meantime, the weather will be much more violent in the southern plains later this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a "High Risk" for severe weather in parts of Kansas and Oklahoma. This is the top of the severity scale, and is reserved for the most severe weather days. Large, long-lived tornadoes are possible in the purple and red highlighted areas, and will likely be a major national story later today.
Our best chance of rain in the Twin Cities will be late tonight into early Tuesday morning, a lingering area of low pressure will keep a low chance of hit-or-miss showers in the forecast through the rest of the work week.
After cooling into the lower 60s Thursday, we warm back to near 70 by this upcoming weekend.
