Man who was actual target of Minnetonka arrest warrant that ended in shootout arrested

Joshua Ramos, of Chanhassen, was arrested in St. Paul on Wednesday, sources confirmed to KARE 11.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Editor's Note: The above video first aired on 4/16/2024.

Nearly 10 days after Hennepin County deputies were involved in a shootout that ended with the death of one man and hospitalization of a deputy, the man authorities were originally after has been arrested.

Joshua Ramos, of Chanhassen, was arrested in St. Paul on Wednesday, sources confirmed to KARE 11.

Investigators said they believed Ramos was living at the Minnetonka address, but another man, Clint Hoyhtya, reportedly opened the door and began shooting at deputies with an assault-style rifle.

According to the BCA's preliminary investigation, "When the deputies knocked on the front door and announced themselves, Hoyhyta started shooting at them with an assault-style rifle."

The deputies returned fire and retreated to set up a perimeter.

Officials said Hoyhtya was wearing a "tactical vest with ballistic plates." Hoyhtya was shot and killed by the deputies' gunfire, according to the release.

It's still unclear if Ramos was even there that day. Court records show Ramos has a long history of domestic violence and drug use. He was wanted for allegedly violating a no contact order, possessing a gun and disseminating private sexual images without consent.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
