Eid prayer event expected to draw thousands to Minneapolis Convention Center

The city said commuters should expect heavy traffic and consider using alternative routes Wednesday morning.

MINNEAPOLIS — An Eid prayer event expected to bring thousands into downtown Minneapolis Wednesday could create traffic backups as people head to the city on their morning commute.

The City of Minneapolis said Tuesday that the Eid al-Adha prayer service is slated to begin at 6 a.m. on June 28 and continue through 11 a.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Drivers should expect heavy traffic and consider using alternative routes Wednesday morning.

The 2023 Eid Al-Adha Convention is being hosted by Abubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center (AAIC), the Rawdah Community Center (Masjid Rawdah), and the Islamic Association of North America, Inc (IANA).

Eid al-Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice, is the second major Muslim festival in the Islamic calendar after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

This year's convention will take place in Exhibit Hall C. Click here for information on convention center parking, skyway access and other event details.
