World's largest ice maze under construction in Viking Lakes

There's an icy chill in the air over at Viking Lakes, as organizers are hard at work on constructing the attraction.

EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Ice Festival is heading to Eagan on Jan. 5, 2024 with an ice maze that is twice the size it was last year.

The festival crew is laying the groundwork for the maze at Viking Lakes, the campus of the Purple and Gold.

Minnesota Ice founder Robbie Harrell said that in order to protect the Vikings' practice field, they lay down plastic, armor decking, plywood and gravel before getting started on the ice maze. Millions of pounds of ice will go into creating the maze, which will span 18,000 square feet.

The Minnesota Ice Maze website says it's set to be the biggest in history.

Harrell said the maze is just the beginning of the festival, as there will be an ice slide, rink (with rentals!), food trucks, bars and icy games.

Once open, the festival will run through Feb. 25 on Thursdays and Fridays from 4-10 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.

And if you've attended before — prices are dropping this year. Tickets are $19.99 for adults, $9.99 for children ages 5-15, and free for younger children.

In addition to the ice fest and maze, Viking Lakes is hosting "Magic of Lights" — a drive-through Christmas lights experience. The experience is currently open nights. For more information, click here
