Highway 65 reopens after fatal crash near Blaine

A woman driving an SUV was killed when a semi struck her vehicle early Monday morning, closing Highway 65 for several hours.

BLAINE, Minn — Both the north and southbound lanes of Highway 65 near Blaine are closed Monday morning as the Minnesota State Patrol investigates a fatal crash. 

The area impacted is around 109th Avenue and Highway 65 (Central Ave.) in Anoka County. 

According to state patrol, the early investigation shows a 37-year-old man from East Bethel was driving a Peterbilt semi heading south on Central Avenue Northeast when he ran a red light and collided with an SUV heading east on 109th Avenue Northeast. 

The driver of the SUV, a 51-year-old woman, was declared dead at the scene. Her name has not been released at this time. 

Troopers say the semi driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.
