Body pulled from Maple Grove pond confirmed as missing teen

Crews searched for Winston Drepaul for weeks before recovering his body from a Maple Grove pond on April 11.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Nearly a month after he was reported missing, authorities confirmed Wednesday they've located and identified the body of 18-year-old Winston Drepaul.

The Maple Grove teen went missing on March 23 after he reportedly left his apartment without any of his belongings, including medications. Crews searched for Drepaul around the area for weeks before recovering a body from a nearby pond on April 11.

Maple Grove police told KARE 11 on Wednesday that the Hennepin County Medical Examiner positively identified the remains as Drepaul. Police said the ME's report is still pending, so Drepaul's nature and cause of death are still unknown.

Despite not revealing the identity of the teen when his body was found, Maple Grove police called the death "difficult and tragic for any family or community."

KARE 11 will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
